Recommendations for laying

On a flat roof

Preparing of the roof

1. It is required to observe the object (roof) for the purpose of defining its condition, slope and water disposal. It is necessary to repair sewage system and storm water drain, cornices and sewers. Special attention has to be paid to the objects the use of which is more than 30 years. As a steel and cast iron rule storm pipes might be damaged at a level of 0.5-1 m below a roof and the damages usually occur at the 1st floor if a basement part of a building is cold. This is connected with that condensate water forms just at this level and it leads to metal corrosion.

2. It is required to remove all foreign objects, rubbish and other things that have come off from the roof and can be easily removed.

3. After this the surface of the roof needs to be cleared from dust with a garden vacuum. The second time when the roof needs dust control is before laying of «Risolin».

4. Open existing blubs, blow off the places of blubs with a vacuum and dry them. If there are some deep holes in the places of opening they must be filled with cement mixture or some other materials.

5. Roof surface must be dry.

6. It is recommended to use primer when applying the material to some cement and concrete surfaces.

After preparation of a roof the «Rizolin» laying can be started.

Methods of Laying

1. «Rizolin FSa» is used in one-layer laying:

a) Unwind a roll at a place of application with a foiled side down and release paper or film up, take it off from the adhesive surface, turn the material with its adhesive side down, place onto the roof and roll it down with a roller. Each following layer must be placed with 10 cm overlap along the length and 15 cm across the width of the material.

b) Unwind a roll of Rizolin FSa to 1 m, take off the release paper or film from this piece, turn the material with its adhesive side down, place it onto the roof and roll this piece of material down with a roller, pull the release film or paper to the direction of glued piece so as it appeared over the foil, unwind rest of the roll, place it and roll down with a roller noticing that the release film is over the material. Each following layer must be placed with 10 cm overlap along the length and 15 cm across the width of the material.

2. In a two-layer laying «Rizolin AS» is applied as a base layer and «Rizolin FSa» as  an upper layer.

a) Unwind a roll of “Rizolin AS”, turn the material with its adhesive side down and with its release paper/film side up, place the material onto the roof and roll it down to it over the paper/film. Take off the release paper/film. Each following layer must be placed with 10 cm overlap along the length and 15 cm across the width of the material.

b) Unwind a roll of “Rizolin AS” to 1 m, turn the material with its adhesive side down and the side with the release paper/film will be up, attached this end of the roll to the roof, unwind the roll, place it and roll down with a roller over the paper/film. Take off the release paper/film. Each following layer must be placed with 10 cm overlap along the length and 15 cm across the width of the material. The upper layer of “Rizolin FSa” must be laid at once after the base layer or in several days when the upper part of “Rizolin AS” is not so sticky. It is placed as in point 1.

«Rizolin AS» is not applied for vertical surfaces insulation.

On a slope roofing

Preparing of the roof

1. It is required to observe the object (roof) for the purpose of defining its condition. It is necessary to repair cornices and sewage system before the works start.

2. It is required to remove all foreign objects and rubbish. The original view of roof must not be changed.

3. Roof surface must be dry.

4. After this the surface of the roof needs to be cleared from dust with a garden vacuum.

Methods of laying

For slap roof repairing they apply equally “Rizolin FSa» or “Rizolin FSc». The material should be laid in the direction of the slope onto a solid base made out of metal, wood or other sheet materials. To make it more convenient it is recommended to cut a roll into strips of a necessary length. Take off the release film or paper from the adhesive surface of the material, turn it with its adhesive side down, attach to a surface of the roof and roll it down with a roller starting from the fold. Each following layer must be placed with 10 cm overlap along the length and 15 cm across the width of the material.

Joining

In joining making with parapet height up to 1 meter it is recommended to attach all surface area of joining as one piece of material. If a parapet is higher than one meter it is necessary to attach “Rizolin” as a piece with a height of no more than 1 meter and anchor it with a plank. Make a trench in a wall of 5 cm deep over the plank at a height from 10 to 20 cm and insert a cast into it.

Ventilation

In case of having ventilation or other additions it is required to demount them from anchorages, past over a bearing part except anchoring elements. For waterproofing and reducing the noise it is recommended to paste over an air channel with «Rizolin FSa».

Pipes

In case of having pipes or other things passing through the roof it is necessary to insulate them starting from the bottom either fully or partially. “Rizolin” must be placed in 1-2 layers if necessary in a spiral manner with an overlap at each turnover.

General information

1. In connection of high adhesive properties of the material it is required to cut out the material correctly and place it onto a roof surface.

2. «Rizolin» must be laid at an ambient temperature higher than 15ºC. At lower temperatures the material is required to be heated by a heat gun or gas burner at a distance no closer than 0.5m. Works must be performed following the fire protection requirement. Working places must be equipped with fire-extinguishing means.

3. Use «white spirit» or vegetable oil to clean hands.

4. You will need a stationary knife, a roller, a garden vacuum and a pair of gloves to handle and work with «Rizolin».
